This course is specifically designed for first line supervisors and command personnel tasked with supervising and managing tactical explosive breaching programs. The course identifies the critical skills and fundamental knowledge required by team leaders and tactical commanders to successfully employ explosive breaching capabilities in a legal and responsible manner.

The 3-day course combines interactive classroom lectures with practical live range demonstrations and practical exercises highlighting proper program development and sustainment, operational standards, identification and mitigation of hazards and liability, and deployment suitability for various missions. As a part of the live range modules, participants will experience firsthand the application and effects of various explosive breaching charges, understand their practical applications, observe and assess their associated risks, and gain the fundamental understanding of the methods by which to mitigate them.

This advanced course is designed to provide trained breachers with comprehensive understanding and practical experience in the effective deployment of explosive breaching as a primary method of forced entry backed by secondary non-energetic breaching tools.  This curriculum provides participants with a unique opportunity to learn and practice the proper deployment of complete breaching packages for the purpose of achieving desired mission and breaching objectives.

This training specifically concentrates on the utilization of proper tactics and appropriate integration of explosive breaching into a wide range of missions to include: High Risk Search Warrants, Barricaded Suspects, Hostage Rescues, and Active Shooters.  Unlike any other breaching course, participants will be instructed, drilled, and tested in their ability to properly match and utilize explosive breaching based on various mission profiles. From the planning phases and briefs, to executions and debriefs, students will physically participate in each phase of simulated missions and be provided with optimal training platforms to combine and hone their tactical and breaching skills.

While the main concentration of the course is the implementation of Explosive Breaching, the course does involve some use of Manual, Mechanical, Ballistic, Thermal, and Hydraulic breaching

Derived directly from years of real-world operational experience with large metropolitan agencies around the nation, this course curriculum addresses, in detail, this critical topic which directly influences the safe, effective, and successful utilization of explosive breaching in real-life missions. This one-of-a-kind curriculum provides the necessary format for tactical breachers to focus solely on the unique and complex skills-sets required to PROPERLY, EFFECTIVELY, and SAFELY breach through a wide verity of WALLS commonly found throughout their operational environments. The training is designed to cultivate the breacher’s ability to implement the 4 fundamentals of breaching as they apply to walls – Target Analysis, Tactical Considerations, Selection and Deployment of Primary and Secondary Breaching Methods, and Creation and Implementation of Contingency Plans.

This specialized breaching course is designed to provide tactical breachers with the training and experience to effectively conduct breaching operations in sub-zero weather conditions.  The course highlights the many challenges and possible failures faced by breaching when conducting breaching operations in extreme cold environments and the ways by which to address and mitigate them.

While the training concentrates predominantly on the use of energetic breaching, it also addresses the important skills and realistic employment of various manual, mechanical, ballistic, thermal, and hydraulic (MMBTH) breaching capabilities as secondary/ backup methods under such harsh conditions.  Doing so ensures participants understand how to better prepare their complete breaching capabilities to obtain the desired breaching results.

Course Introduction:

Based on our long running 6 day Tactical Explosive Breacher course, this extended 9 day curriculum was designed to fulfill CAL OSHA prerequisites and is geared specifically toward California law enforcement officers who have the professional need to acquire a state of California Blaster’s License. 

This comprehensive training program provides participants with the knowledge and expertise necessary to build an Explosive Breaching Program for their agency or expand upon an existing one.  The training is specially designed to teach participants the skills required to become successful operational breachers and instill within them the knowledge and physical capabilities to deploy these skills in real-world situations.

The 9 day hands-on training will take students from the basic/ beginning level of explosive breaching and gradually progress them into intermediate materials.  Furthermore, it will provide them with the knowledge and skills necessary to acquire their state of CA Blaster’s License.  Great emphasis is placed on the real-life application of this breaching method under various tactical conditions.  Students will be taught, drilled, and tested in all aspects of explosive breaching to include: charge calculation, charge construction, target analysis, proper deployment, tactical considerations, and various issues pertaining to liability.

Course Introduction:

This fully interactive hands-on training program provides the necessary skills for proper and effective response of Bomb Technicians and EMS professionals to dynamic post blast MCIs. The course facilitates interoperability between responding Bomb Technicians and EMS personnel operating at the same scene, performing different duties, and sharing a common mission objective of saving lives.

The course instructs participants in the proven methods and crucial techniques required for operating in dynamic and high risk MCI environments where rapid response is vital for the security of the scene and life-saving efforts.   For this reason, the training concentrates on the unique hands-on skills required for searching, identifying, mitigating, and rendering safe a wide array of unattended and suspicious items as well as confirmed and/ or unconfirmed devices. Furthermore, the course provides specific triage and emergent victim stabilization techniques geared toward providing expedient life-saving skills to victims.

The skills and techniques taught in the course are derived directly from our instructors’ real-life operational experiences with elite Israeli and US EOD/ Bomb Technician and EMS units handling countless high-risk terrorist and criminal incidents in their respective fields. Their combined knowledge provides the basis for this unique course which was specifically designed for US law enforcement, fire, rescue, and EMS operations in civilian environments.

The Breacher’s ChallengeTM is the first and only competition of its kind to concentrate solely on the skills of tactical breaching.  Designed by and for tactical breachers, this competition tests the breaching skills of individuals and their teams as they apply to the 5 most common methods of breaching: Manual, Mechanical, Ballistic, Thermal, and Explosive.

This intense team competition is designed to task every aspect of a breacher’s skills, endurance, and decision-making.  Breaching teams will be judged on their ability to perform proper target analysis, appropriate use of various tools, and the implementation of breaching methods in a tactically sound manner.

The Breacher’s ChallengeTM consists of individual events. Each event concentrates on one or more methods of breaching.  Teams may choose to compete in single, multiple, or all breaching events based on their comfort level and proficiency with specific methods of breaching/ tools.  

 

This year’s competition tracks are:

  • Manual and Ballistic Breaching
  • Mechanical (Rescue K12/ Quickie saw) Breaching
  • Exothermic Breaching
  • Explosive Breaching 

 

Prerequisites:

  • Teams must consist of two members of the same agency 
  • Teams must demonstrate acceptable proficiency with breaching methods and tools.
  • For teams competing in the Explosive Breaching track- One team members must be certified as explosive breacher (proof of certification will be required.)

 

Rules:

  • Teams must obey safety rules at all times.
  • Safety equipment and gear must be used/ worn at all times.
  • Teams must follow instructions from safety officers and/ or graders at all times.
  • To assure overall consistency, teams must use the tools and materials provided by the organizing party. 
  • Members of the host agency will not be allowed to participate in the competition.  
  • Teams will compete at their assigned time.  Failure appear at the designated area at the  assigned time will result in automatic disqualification from the specific event.
  • Proper safety equipment must be provided by each team member
  • Tactical ballistic vest or plate carrier, ballistic helmet, and pistol holster must be worn at all times by both team members.
  • All events are timed.
  • Predetermined penalties will add time to the finishing time of the team. (see individual events for list of penalty descriptions and time)
  • Team with the fastest total time (includes penalties) will win the event/s.
  • Absolutely NO whining allowed!!!

  • Prizes will be awarded to winners of all individual events and the all-around Master Breacher Event.
